Guided Rock Climbing Alaska
Alaska Rock Climbing Guide
CMI is a single and multi-pitch trad and sport rock climbing guide with extensive experience throughout Alaska. Whether you’re seeking an alpine adventure climbing experience, a roadside multi-pitch route, classic granite trad, the best crack climbing in the Chugach, or simply an intro to single pitch sport climbing with an easy approach; CMI can guide you up a route ideal for your ability, experience, and interest while helping you learn and develop rock climbing skills and techniques.
Alaskan rock climbing opportunities are primarily concentrated in the greater Anchorage area (with easy logistics being near the international airport): along the Seward Highway just south of the city (tons of single pitch sport options and Alaska’s most classic multi-pitch trad route), in the Western Chugach Front Range above the city (some of the best rock and crack climbing in this mountain range with a fantastic alpine ambiance), in the Eagle River valley just north of the city (quality sport and sprad routes), and at Hatcher Pass (Alaska’s most accessible granite climbing in the sublime high alpine ecosystem of the southwestern Talkeetna Mountains).
Additional sport and trad climbing opportunities exist in the Matanuska River valley which divides the Chugach and Talkeetna Mountain ranges (~1.5 hr drive north of Anchorage at Ravine Lake and Purinton Creek). Climbing in the Mat Valley is in the foothills of the southern Talkeetnas with the epic backdrop of the stunningly precipitous Northern Chugach.
Near CMI’s base in the Valdez area Central Chugach a plethora of sport, trad, and alpine adventure climbing opportunities exist. Climbing ranges from quality single pitch sport routes with a very short drive and approach from town, to the alpine sport and trad routes of the extraordinary Worthington Glacier area, to multi-pitch alpine adventure climbing on Thompson Pass, to obscure routes in the interior Tiekel River valley.
CMI also offers trips to most everywhere else in the state with climbing opportunities which include the Grapefruit Rocks near Fairbanks as well as adventure and expedition climbing in the Alaska Range.
