Fosse Backpacking & Hiking
Wrangell-St. Elias National Park & Preserve
This is a great basecamp style or mellow backpacking trip option for those seeking a relatively easy or introductory backcountry experience that requires no significant mandatory wilderness challenges. The Fosse is a great zone for exploration in many directions and the terrain can accommodate anyone. Challenges can surely be had on day trip hikes with light packs, on short out-and-back backpacking trips, or everything can be kept relaxing. The area is perfect for choosing your own level of adventure and “challenge by choice.” It’s one of the most affordable round trip fly-in trips in the park and is great for families or groups with varying levels of fitness and appetite for adventure.
While the Fosse is a great option for even shorter trips, CMI recommends four days to experience the area.
