Loveland & Tones Temple area
The Loveland and Tones Temple area, near Thompson Pass proper, is one of the highest elevation starting points in the area. It’s a great early season destination for skiing and snowboarding (with a good base sometimes as early as mid October and almost always by mid November). The area also provides excellent high alpine summer access for hiking, mountaineering and alpine climbing.
In the spring (through May), the south face of Loveland is (in CMI’s opinion) the best corn run in North America with over 2000′ of continuous 35-40ยบ fall line and epic views! The NE aspect of Loveland provides a variety of options: steep chutes and mellow powder faces to a long, mellow glacier run. The south and NE faces of Tones are steep and iconic 1000’+ Thompson Pass classic descents, with the east ridge ascent route a highly aesthetic 1000′ alpine climb up a sharp (but relatively manageable) ridge.
