Guided Backcountry Skiing, Snowboarding, & Ski Mountaineering

Based in the Central Chugach (Valdez, Thompson Pass, Tiekel Valley), CMI offers guided backcountry skiing, snowboarding, and ski mountaineering statewide.

With more than 1,000 days experience throughout Alaska and numerous first descents (some from previously unclimbed peaks and via first ascents of new alpine climbing routes) your guide can share the Alaskan backcountry experience with an intricate depth of knowledge for finding appropriate tours and objectives for all ability and experience levels.

CMI offers trips (day & multi-day) from the road system and fly-in. Destinations include Wrangell-St. Elias, Lake Clark, and Gates of the Arctic national parks, the Chugach, Kenai, and Talkeetna mountains, the Brooks and Alaska ranges.

Guided Hiking & Backpacking

CMI offers small group and private trips throughout Alaska for all experience and ability levels. From introductory and family friendly trips to the most challenging commercially offered backpacking routes in the world, CMI specializes in providing optimal adventure whether you’re new to backpacking or are an experienced wilderness trekker.

CMI trips are the most affordable on the market, especially relative to the qualifications of your guide who has more than 2,000 days experience skiing, climbing, and trekking throughout Alaska. In addition to guiding, CMI’s outdoor education can help you develop the knowledge, skill, and ability to plan and undertake trips on your own (independently and without a guide).

Destinations include Wrangell-St. Elias, Gates of the Arctic, and Lake Clark national parks, the Chugach, Kenai, and Talkeetna mountains, the Brooks and Alaska ranges, and many other mountainous areas of Alaska.
